Research Statement

I am interested in particulate matter (aerosol) in the atmosphere - its sources, transformation and sinks, as well as its impacts on air quality and climate. Specifically I am interested in secondary organic aerosol (SOA) and multi-phase processing of aerosol. A considerable part of my research is dedicated to gas-phase chemistry and radiation as necessary components to understand ambient aerosol.

My main research tools are numerical models of all shapes and sizes, which I employ and also develop myself. I have worked mostly with Eulerian regional-scale, non-hydrostatic models, but recently ventured into box modeling as well as contributed to global modeling. As contribution to forecasting and analysis of (aircraft) field campaigns I run Lagrangian particle dispersion models as well.
